ADR stands for the “European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.” It sets the legal framework for transporting hazardous materials across European countries. For truck drivers, obtaining ADR certification is crucial because it ensures they are trained to handle dangerous goods safely, minimising risks to themselves, the public, and the environment.
To obtain an ADR certificate, you need to enroll in an approved ADR training course, which covers topics like safety procedures, legal requirements, and emergency actions. After completing the course, you must pass a series of exams. Once you pass, you’ll receive an ADR certificate that’s valid for five years.
ADR regulations cover nine classes of dangerous goods, including explosives, gases, flammable liquids and solids, oxidising substances, toxic and infectious substances, radioactive materials, corrosives, and other miscellaneous dangerous items. If you plan to transport any of these goods, you must have the appropriate ADR certification.
